The USAID Sustainable Local Development Project is active in 32 cities and municipalities in Serbia. The aim of one of the Project's components is to strengthen businesses\u2019 activities and increase their comparative advantage in order to enhance income generation and maximize product placement in new, mostly foreign markets. Each of these municipalities has been supported in one particular industry most relevant to the area. Business profiles provide quick facts about these municipalities, such as total population, number of formally employed, average wage, main industries, and exports, etc.<\/p>\n
Cooperation between municipalities is established in eight general municipalities: IMC Subotica, IMC Novi Sad, IMC Zrenjanin, IMC Kraljevo, IMC U\u017eice, IMC Novi Pazar, IMC Ni\u0161, and IMC Vranje.<\/p>\n

USAID SLDP support is reflected in agriculture. Specifically, in equipping the laboratory of Public Health Institute<\/span><\/a><\/span> in Subotica and Regional Educational Center<\/span><\/a><\/span> in Sombor. The aim is to increase the comparative advantage and capacity of agricultural producers. The result should be increased placement of fruits, vegetables, and cereals in domestic and foreign markets.<\/p>\n IMC Novi Sad \u2013 IMC Novi Sad Business Profile<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n IMC Novi Sad covers the municipalities of Novi Sad, Beo\u010din, Temerin, and Sremski Karlovci. USAID SLDP support is reflected in the metal industry and IT industry. The goal is strengthening and expanding the capacity of Vojvodina Metal Cluster (VMC)<\/span><\/a><\/span> in order to increase metal industry exports in 2014 and to increase employment and business revenues in the IT industry.<\/p>\n IMC Zrenjanin \u2013 IMC Zrenjanin Business Profile<\/a><\/p>\n IMC Zrenjanin covers the municipalities of Zrenjanin, Kikinda, and Novi Be\u010dej. USAID SLDP support is reflected in agriculture. This support includes equipping greenhouses with the main goal of educating young people and increasing the number of households that grow vegetables. The final result will be a new number of individual agricultural producers.<\/p>\n IMC Kraljevo \u2013 IMC Kraljevo Business Profile<\/a><\/p>\n IMC Kraljevo covers the municipalities of Kraljevo, \u010ca\u010dak, Gornji Milanovac, and Vrnja\u010dka Banja. USAID SLDP support is in new innovations in the SME sector. The aim is to strengthen the business of IMPuls center<\/span><\/a><\/span> in Kraljevo and Science and Technology Park in \u010ca\u010dak.<\/span><\/a><\/span>. The goal is to increase the number of firms that use services of IMPuls center.<\/p>\n IMC Uzice \u2013 IMC U\u017eice Business Profile<\/a><\/p>\n IMC U\u017eice covers the municipalities of U\u017eice, \u010cajetina, and Nova Varo\u0161. The project supported local manufacturers of agricultural products and those who provide services in tourism. USAID SLDP and Regional Development Agency Zlatibor<\/span><\/a><\/span> try to increase the number of procurements from the HORECA sector in the domestic market. The goal is for hotels and other hospitality businesses to purchase more products and services from producers from these municipalities.<\/p>\n IMC Novi Pazar \u2013 IMC Novi Pazar Business Profile<\/a><\/p>\n IMC Novi Pazar covers the municipalities of Novi Pazar, Sjenica, and Tutin. Support is provided to producers of jeans and footwear. Foreign experts provide advice on how to improve the manufacturing process and select more competitive products, how to improve marketing activities, and find new markets in Serbia and abroad. Expected results should be an increase in business revenues, exports, and employment. Also, the manufacture of furniture and processing of herbs and forest fruits is not so developed, but USAID's predictions are that it has a lot of room for potential future growth.<\/p>\n IMC Nis \u2013 IMC Ni\u0161 Business Profile<\/a><\/p>\n IMC Ni\u0161 covers the municipalities of Ni\u0161, Leskovac, Doljevac, Gad\u017ein Han, and Mero\u0161ina. USAID supports the IT and agricultural industries. The results should be a small increase in employment and business revenues in the Information Technology sector. Support in agriculture is reflected in assisting the Food Processing Support Center in Ni\u0161 and Food and Technology Center in Leskovac.<\/span><\/a><\/span>. SLDP support is visible in footwear manufacturing by enhancing competitiveness and openness to new markets, and also in realizing new investments in the footwear industry in this region. The SLDP project, in cooperation with Zlatibor Regional Development Agency<\/span><\/a><\/span>, is trying to increase the volume of procurement for the HORECA sector in the local market. The support of the SLDP project is provided to denim producers and footwear manufacturers, through advice from foreign experts for improving production processes and selecting more competitive products, improving marketing activities, and entering new markets domestically and abroad. Expected results are an increase in business revenue, exports, and the number of employees. Furniture production and the collection and processing of medicinal herbs and forest fruits are small-scale, but according to SLDP project estimates, they have potential for growth.<\/p>\n IMC Ni\u0161 \u2013 Business profile IMC Ni\u0161<\/a> (Available in English only)<\/p>\n IMC Ni\u0161 covers the municipalities of Ni\u0161, Leskovac, Doljevac, Gad\u017ein Han, and Mero\u0161ina. SLDP support is concentrated in the IT sector and should result in a slight increase in the number of employees in the information technology sector and an increase in revenue. In addition to this sector, support was also provided to the food industry. SLDP supports the work of the Ni\u0161 Center for Support of the Food Processing Industry. The support is of a smaller scale. Technology and Food Park in Leskovac<\/span><\/a><\/span> should receive more significant support by the end of 2014 from the SLDP project.
