Prosumers are a very significant and still completely underutilized mechanism in Serbia, so it is necessary to work on their further promotion, concluded the online panel discussion „Prosumers and energy security in Serbia“ held on November 8.

Panelists Ivana Jovčić, Executive Director of the Center for the Advancement of the Environment, Dejan Stojadinović, energy consultant, Damir Dizdarević, Coordinator of Working Group 15 (Energy) at the National Convention on the European Union, BFPE Foundation and Ljubinko Savić, Secretary of the Association for Energy and Energy Mining at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, moderated by Lazar Ivanović, Economist at CEVES, discussed the role of prosumers in energy security and the green transition, the situation in Serbia compared to the EU and Western Balkan countries, the most common challenges for households, the procedures and economic viability of obtaining prosumer status in Serbia, as well as the status of prosumers in the economy and the concept of the Active Customer.

The participants of the discussion emphasized that the electricity systems in the Western Balkans are at a crossroads, where growing supply uncertainties and price fluctuations create the need for new production and consumption models, and that accordingly, in this new energy dynamic, the role of prosumers – citizens and companies that not only consume but also produce energy – is becoming increasingly significant.

Within the panel discussion, key results and recommendations of the CEVES study were also presented Perfect Storm: Food and Energy Insecurity Threaten Western Balkan Economies.

The panel discussion was organized within the framework of the regional project “SMART Balkans – Civil Society for Shared Society in the Western Balkans”.
