The Project „Supporting and Stimulating Growth of Competitive Industries“ is funded by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) and was launched in late April 2015. The objective of this project is to offer recommendations, essential for establishing targeted sectoral support, that will eliminate, or at least reduce, the most significant obstacles and unlock the untapped potential for the growth of competitive industries. These recommendations are intended to assist the Serbian government and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in promptly building an enhanced information foundation for more effective targeting of industrial policies, which are crucial for the revival of Serbia's economic landscape, job creation, and overall growth. The current regular monitoring and forecasts of Serbian sector performance, needs, and challenges are analytically deficient and, more critically, rely on unreliable and incomplete economic data. Nevertheless, this type of information is vital for market participants in Serbia to operate effectively.
This project is structured to maximize the involvement of both the public and private sectors in Serbia in the creation and execution of an action plan aimed at unleashing the latent growth potential within competitive sectors. The initial phase of this process involves a swift assessment of national and industry competitiveness to pinpoint and prioritize sectors where the country holds a latent comparative advantage. The outcome will be a list of suggested sectors that should receive governmental support. The second phase entails an in-depth analysis leading to the formulation of recommendations, the development of an enhancement strategy, and the prioritization of constraints. The third and final phase involves the formalization of the action plan by domestic industry stakeholders, key public sector bodies, and development partners.
The Project „Supporting and Stimulating Growth of Competitive Industries“ is funded by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) and was initiated in April 2015. The project's goal is to provide recommendations necessary for targeted sectoral support, which will remove, or at least minimize, the greatest constraints faced by these sectors and unlock the untapped potential for the growth of competitive industries. These recommendations will assist the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) in rapidly identifying the information base necessary for better defining industrial policies that are important for the revitalization of the Serbian economy, job creation, and economic growth. The needs and challenges of regular monitoring and projections of Serbian industry performance are analytically weak and, more importantly, are based on unreliable and incomplete statistical data. However, this information is of great importance for participants in the Serbian market to enable them to act in accordance with their objectives.
This project has been created with the aim of maximizing the participation of Serbia's public and private sectors in the development and implementation of an action plan to unlock the hidden potential for growth in competitive sectors. The first step in this process is a rapid analysis of country and sector competitiveness to identify and prioritize sectors in which the country possesses a hidden comparative advantage. The result will be a list of proposed sectors that should receive support from the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The second step is a deeper analysis, which will result in the definition of recommendations, the development of a strategy, as well as the ranking of constraints. The third and final step relates to the formalization of the action plan by domestic players in these sectors, key public sector bodies, and development partners.
