Partner: United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
Year: 2017
The project's objective was to assess the value chain of the fruit and vegetable sector in Serbia, which would be used in the next period to determine the impact of the overall USAID project for strengthening competitiveness. The analysis is largely focused on the processing of fruits and vegetables and the „downstream parts“ (retail chain) of the value chain, as it is assumed that through these segments, with limited resources, it is likely possible to influence the overall competitiveness system. The assessment of the fruit and vegetable value chain in Serbia was carried out through an analysis of foreign trade, an analysis of retail chains, and producers in the fruit and vegetable value chain. The first phase of the project identified the most significant products in Serbia's exports and imports, focusing on exporting companies and differentiation according to types of export products and types of customers. Within the second phase of the project, CEVES conducted 200 telephone interviews, using USAID standardized questionnaires. The questionnaire aimed to reveal the patterns of company behavior in networking and financing processes.
