This study presents an analysis of the performance of the manufacturing sector in Serbia, with a deeper analysis of the competitiveness of four sectors selected by the Ministry of Economy: food and beverages (F&B), wood and furniture (W&F), rubber and plastics (R&P), and machinery and equipment (M&E). The study was conducted within the framework of the „Competitiveness and Employment“ project, which is being implemented through the cooperation of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the World Bank, and whose main goal is to mitigate and remove barriers to increasing competitiveness and employment.
The aim of the study is to contribute to the improvement of the business and investment environment – particularly in the selected sectors – in such a way that the implementation of the activities proposed in the study leads to the stimulation of development, competitiveness, and employment, i.e., to eliminate or at least reduce the impact of the key identified barriers. Furthermore, the study also aims to provide information relevant for the creation of an industrial development strategy, in line with negotiation chapter 20 — Entrepreneurship and Industrial Policy, which relates to accelerating structural adjustments, fostering an environment conducive to starting businesses, domestic and foreign investments, promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as entrepreneurship and innovation.
