CEVES, within the framework of the project „Alignment with EU Competition Policies,“ which aims to contribute to the improvement of the developmental effects of state aid and harmonization with EU regulations, held a round table discussion attended by recognized experts in the field. The project implementation is financially supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Belgrade and the Balkan Fund for Democracy. The discussion at the round table was constructive and interdisciplinary – it combined legal and economic aspects, and confronted theoretical implications with empirical results.
Participants agreed that any form of state aid that can have a genuine developmental effect will be in compliance with EU regulations. However, state aid can in no way be a substitute for a favorable business environment and stable macroeconomic conditions. For state aid to truly have certain developmental effects, parallel and continuous progress is necessary in the institutional environment that treats all participants equally, in education and infrastructure, with attention to environmental protection.
