Organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, a conference titled „New Economic Agenda for Serbia“ was held in Belgrade on October 29, 2021. The conference opening was initiated by the Director of FES for Serbia and Montenegro – Max Brandle, followed by presentations of analyses by:
President of the Management Board of the Centre for Advanced Economic Studies Kori Udovički: „Serbia's Economic Growth: Reality but also (yet) another missed opportunity.“.
Professor of Economics at the University of Perugia, Milica Uvalić; „Industrial Policy in Serbia: Towards a Significant Reliance on Internal Growth Sources.“.
Milica Uvalić and Will Bartlet: „Regional Disparities and Regional Development Policies in Serbia.“.
In her analysis, Kori Udovički confirms the fact that after a period of stagnation, a certain economic growth has been achieved, but at the same time questions its sustainability, quality, and inclusivity. Furthermore, the Chief Economist of Ceves emphasizes the importance of strengthening institutional capacities, investing in people, creating quality jobs, and reducing regional inequality. She assesses the green transition as an area with enormous potential for Serbia, while in response to the question about „Rio Tinto,“ she states that „as a normal citizen, she does not have enough information to draw rational conclusions, due to the general lack of transparency.“.
